Gamage is a great guy! He’s really eager for you to success and learn how to surf ?????????????? He’s patient and will keep trying to find the way that’s the best fit for you ???? He can teach 2 people at the same time, even if you don’t have the same level

We have visited Hiriketiya for the last 3 years around Feb/March and each time we have visited Gamage at HTSS. He’s great, patient teacher and an all round awesome dude. He’ll get you standing, riding waves in no time but also teaches you how to read the waves, improve your technique and progress to a point where you’re confident to paddle out on your own. At this point you can rent a board to suit your level from big foamies to smaller hard boards. Get in the water early (6/7am) before the heat and inevitable crowds...if you’re lucky you’ll see one of the local turtles too! We can’t recommend Gamage (& Madu!) highly enough. HTSS is awesome. I had my first surfing lessons ever with Gamage (the owner of the surf shop) two years ago. I was able to stand up during my first lesson and I had a lot of fun while I learned surfing. The waves are really nice and good for beginners. Although more experienced surfings can also surf on the point breaks and a bit further out.

Two years later I came back again, because I had such a good experience the first time.

I rented a board with Hiri Turtle School again (they have really good bords there) and I made such good friends with Himesh (one of the surf instructors), Madu (taking care of everything) and Gamage.
I had such a good time and it was so much fun to hang out and surf with them.

I saw Himesh teaching a lot of people and he is a really good and patient instructor.

Hiriketiya won't be my last time :)

I had several lessons with Gamage, the owner, and it was an amazing experience! I started as a total beginner with no knowledge of surfing, and by the end of the week, I was catching waves on my own in the intermediate section. Gamage is an incredible teacher, he guided me every step of the way, ensuring I caught plenty of waves each day. He really knows how to scaffold the learning process, pushing me when I needed it while always keeping the challenges at the perfect level. On top of that, Gamage is incredibly kind and patient. He taught both my husband and me how to surf, and we can’t recommend him highly enough! If you’re thinking of learning to surf, don’t miss the chance to take lessons with him.
